If you are a highly sensitive person (HSP) or just suspect you are, you experience life differently than 80-85% of the population does. Your differences and keen awareness are actually superpowers that most people simply don’t understand. So, when you begin searching for a life coach you know you want to work with someone who understands your unique gifts and challenges.
What should you look for when hiring an HSP life coach?
Because you are unique, you want to work with a coach who is uniquely qualified. You’ll also want to make sure you feel comfortable with the coach and her approach to coaching.
Below is a list of questions to ask your prospective coach to make sure she is a good fit for you:
What are your certifications?
A qualified HSP coach will have certifications in both general life coaching and specifically in coaching highly sensitive people. What is your coaching style?
Coaching style is very important. Your exquisite perception of emotions and nuance mean that you’ll want to work with a coach who is compassionate and understanding of your needs. You’ll want a coach who encourages you to fully express yourself in a judgment-free environment as you work on facing challenges and achieving goals. What methodologies and tools do you use?
The answer to this question will give you more insight into your prospective HSP life coach’s style. What is the cost?
Because coaching is a self-pay service, cost is of course a consideration. You’ll want to make sure you budget for your coaching. When are they available?
This is another practical consideration. You’ll want to know that the HSP life coach you want to work with is available to work with you when you’re available to work with them.
You may be able to determine the answer to many, if not all, of these questions by a thorough reading of your prospective coach’s website. However, there’s nothing like a conversation to really evaluate what it would be like working with this person.
For that reason, most coaches offer a consultation.

Is an HSP life coach worth it?
Coaching is an investment in yourself, so it’s understandable that you would ask this question – especially if you’ve never worked with an HSP life coach before. Of course, you’ll want to have some confidence that you’ll see a Return On your Investment (ROI).
An important thing to consider is that your ROI isn’t all about the coach, it’s also about you and your willingness to do the necessary work.
You can get an idea of how successful you believe you’ll be working with your prospective coach. To do this, you’ll want to read the testimonials on your prospective coach’s website and search for other reviews or comments about them online.
What should you expect from an HSP life coach?
In general, life coaches help you with self-improvement, setting and addressing both short and long-term goals, working through difficult challenges you face, and identifying opportunities to expand your knowledge. They are persistently positive and action-oriented in their approach.
You can expect all of this and more from an HSP life coach. They will teach you how to thrive as a highly sensitive person. They understand the propensity an HSP has for becoming overwhelmed. So, they will share with you specific methodologies and tools to help you manage the overwhelm and more greatly appreciate your unique gifts.
A little about me and why I became an HSP life coach…
I’m a highly sensitive person too. Like most of us, it took me a while to understand that I was different from most people and to accept that different didn’t mean I was wrong or bad. In fact, I discovered that being different was incredibly powerful.
Because I am different from 80-85% of the population, I have a tremendous ability for compassion and to understand others at their core and in a broader perspective. I know what it’s like to feel different and want support and guidance – without a diagnosis.
The diagnoses that therapy offers are labels. Labels tend to diminish HSPs especially when they’re assigned by those who don’t understand what it’s like to be one. Recognizing that you’re highly sensitive isn’t a diagnosis.
I enjoy inspiring other HSPs to fully embrace their unique gifts.
I learned early on that there are 4 things in life necessary to achieve success: motivation, problem-solving skills, effective communication, and self-awareness/understanding. For an HSP, understanding yourself, your exquisite gifts, and helping others to understand you are the keys to feeling more coherent and successful. This is the work I do and how I choose to make a difference in the world.
